A couple of days ago, I was in Southend and saw this giant teddy sitting outside the teddy bear shop in the Victoria shopping centre. He sits there waiting for children to come and hug him while having their photos taken but, on this day, there were not many people about so he looked rather lonely.
In one of the windows were these toys:
As they were together, they looked like they were happier and having fun.
However, these are just my perceptions, my thoughts about these toys. The opposite could be true. The giant bear might be pleased that he is not being jumped on by screaming, boisterous kids and he could be enjoying sitting there on his own in the peace and quiet. Maybe he is an introvert who enjoys being alone.
On the other hand, the toys who are all together may not be enjoying themselves at all. Maybe they don’t get on and they want to get away from each other but they are trapped together behind the glass.
Who knows what goes on in someone’s head? Nobody knows what you are thinking and feeling unless you tell them. If you are struggling with depression and anxiety, please go to your G.P. and be open to trying different medication until you find something that helps you. The longer you leave it, the worse it gets. You can end up having a breakdown and thinking you are going mad. Don’t let it go that far. Get help as soon as you notice you are not able to deal with things.
Medication and coping skills can help. So can doing things you enjoy as much as you can. Arts and crafts are very beneficial. Making something with your hands is therapeutic. Doing a crossword puzzle is effective at blocking out negative thoughts because you can’t think of two things at once.
Be gentle with yourself. If all you can do is get out of bed, that is O.K. Do what you can, whenever you can. Resist the temptation to do too much when you are having a good day as it can make you feel bad the day after. Take things steadily and try to keep a balance between action and rest.
